Peasants’ Rights / Territoires

Working Group on the Rights of Peasants – report to the General Assembly on peasant
territorial rights over land and sea (autumn 2026)

Analyses the legal concept of peasant territoriality under UNDROP Articles 17
and 25, focusing on three normative gaps: absence of mandatory prior consultation mechanisms for large-scale land acquisitions, lack of legal personality for collective peasant communities, and inadequate protection of artisanal fishing communities against blue grabbing in SIDS blue economy frameworks. Proposes binding FPIC mechanisms, collective legal standing, and Article 6 Paris Agreement safeguards for carbon market land rights.
